Bat Attakk
- Teratophobia (2005)![]() The sticker that came with their demo CD says "BAT ATTAKK Sci-Fi Horror, synth-trash!" and.. well that's a pretty good description. Sure, it's not anything that's going to change your life, or make you cry about your recently broken heart or whatever the crap you're expecting... Bat Attakk are two guys from Germany that make some damn fun music to listen to. The songs are upbeat and sound like a new-wave soundtrack for Halloween (the holiday, not the movie). No cringe-worthy lyrics, catchy choruses. On almost every track you'll hear backup vocals that remind me of the Gremlins singing "New York, New York" in Gremlins 2, and believe me this is a very, very good thing. I can't listen to that stuff without without giggling like a school girl, this actually adds a great element to the music. The first track of the CD is "This is A Bat Attakk", it starts out with well.. the sounds of a bat attack, and you'll immediately feel like you're in a cheap horror movie with rubber bats dropping from the ceiling hung by fishing line. Then comes "Zombie-Disco" A song about zombies, I don't remember ever hating a song about zombies, and i'm not gonna start now! This song wouldn't seem so funny if it weren't for the "yeah yeah yummy" and "1-2-3-4" chants in the Gremlin voices, "the un-dead don't like to dance, they love it". This song is a freakin' goldmine, simply awesome. "Triple Six-Zero" has some great use of everyone's favorite lyrics "woah" and "oh", a song about a haunted radio, can't argue with that stuff. All these horror bands talk about haunted radios, I'm afraid to adjust the dial of radio's for fear of hearing Satan's voice and being told to sacrifice my newts. Anyway, "Teratophobia" is everything a demo CD could want to be, it's 6 songs and it feels like an album. Sure, it feels like a novelty album at points, but it beats the hell out of hearing "Monster Mash" on end for any period of time. These grave robbers from the other side of the globe didn't waste any time sending me this CD, it'd be worth it for anyone to order it, just to say "hey, check out this cool band i found..." it's a CD-R in a black and white sleeve, it looks like what you'd expect a horror rock CD to look like, but they went the extra mile and threw in a sticker and button. Gotta love the extras. Quick! someone get this band some US distribution! Anyway.. go to the website and download some songs.
