The Yulgits Start Some Horror (2005) Sean reviews another horror rock album

I caught this band at the Michale Graves concert that didn't happen, I was impressed enough to pick up a CD. The band is young, at the time of the recording the oldest member was 18, and the youngest was 12. So for right now their age is a novelty. The thing is, they're already really talented and writing some good stuff. Chances are they're going to keep getting better at it.  The EP  is short, with seven songs clocking in at 13 minutes. They know to keep it short and not bore you. They pretty much play two styles of songs, your standard horror punk with 50's crooning, and the much more convincing hardcore/street punk sound.
The recording could stand to be a little cleaner, though they may have been going for that kind of thing.  "Toxic Revolution" is my favorite song on it,  it's fast, has some great breaks and just keeps getting better, before you know it the song is over. "Children of the Living Dead"  is another good one, short and catchy. Other songs might not stick with you as much, but there's usually something noteworthy in it,  some of the songs have some really great lead guitar work.

All in all, The Yulgits are a band to look out for. The EP is worth picking up to show some support for the horror scene. They put on a pretty good show too.
