Horror High
Presents : Prom Queen Massacre (2006)![]() I normally hate compilation CDs. But, being a fanboy, i bought Prom Queen Massacre anyway. I wasn't disappointed and I found a couple bands that I'm going to look into. Mission accomplished, right? There's no bad song on this album, there are some stuff that's done in a style i'm not too into, but there's no one song that's absolute crap. That's a rarity, since there are so many punk comps that are full of filler. Not the case here, it's definitely a CD you can throw in a car stereo or the radio at work and not have any complaints. This would be an ideal "gateway album" to get people into the world of horror rock. The Death Riders and Frankenstein Drag Queens tracks will win over fans of Rob Zombie or Marilyn Manson. The Vincent Black Shadow have a female singer, and well.. any teenage girl will love them for that reason. Seriously though, their song "Surgery" is infectious, and it's amazing that they're not already huge. Michale Graves song "Beware" is on it, I would have picked "Teenage Monster". But hey this isn't Sean Farquhar Presents: Prom Queen Massacre, now is it? I like to play Zombeast - "Wolfskin Killer" for people and then say "check it out, Danzig's kicking ass again", followed up with "just kidding, it's Zombeast". I know it's been said a million times, but this dude sounds a lot like a Pre-Grandpa Danzig. I can't wait for their full length. . The Rosedales have this alternative rock/punk sound, i like their track more and more each listen. The Jackalopes - "The Night You Died" is a sweet song for anyone who's lost a friend. That's not sarcasm, it's really a great song. Nim Vind's track is just about perfect 50's ballad style punk rock song. I can't describe why it rules, it just does. Calabrese rock as usual i mean, just look at the pin on my jacket. Every page of the booklet looks like it could be a movie poster. The narration idea is pretty cool, it's Wednesday 13 giving announcements as principal of Horror High. It comes across as cheesy to me. It works, since the compilation is presented as if it were a horror movie. There a couple songs that don't really do it for me, and a bunch of songs that are awesome. Go ahead, buy it, and tell them I told you to. Class dismissed. (yeah I can make school jokes too)
