Mister Monster
- Over Your Dead Body v2 (2004)![]() This is the remastered version of Mister Monster's debut album, They've been a staple of the horror rock movement for ever. Or maybe just J-sin, I'm not really sure since all these bands are comprised of the same members.. but hey if it ain't broke don't fuck with it. This CD is really solid with a wide variety of song types. Upbeat punk rock with a doo-wop break down? Hard Rock ballads? Semi-spoken word that would put Shatner to shame? This album's got it all. Anyway, here are some songles worth checking out: -"Little Frankenstein" a fast, catchy upbeat song about eating brains and falling in love with the bride of Frankenstein? I was hooked the second i heard "Look Mom! No more brains". One of my favorite songs at the moment. "Prom Night" this was the first song i ever heard from them, it's a about Carrie, I'm not sure if i like it as much as Calabrese's "Blood in My Eyes" but hey, it's not a competition, everyone can write about this movie/book so long as they're rocking. Hell I'd rather listen to either than sit through anything with Travolta in it. "Bigger Shop Of Horrors" A slow and heavy song, lots of crooning with bits of screaming thrown in. really compelling. :"All My Monsters" - real fast song, the verses are pretty much a ton of horror movie monsters names being screamed off with a catchy chorus in between. Interesting, at least. "This Night I Call Bad Luck" a rocking song, with a little bit of a Social Distortion feel. Lots of intentionally cliche lyrics which i absolutely love. "Send More Paramedics" The name says it all. The guy doesn't want to die. This song is a happy, upbeat song, or so it seems. I keep trying to find the double meaning, but hell, maybe it's just fun. A good number of the songs have a 1950's feel, In fact it's pretty much exactly what Misfits Project 1950 should have been but failed at being. An ironic blend of doo-wop and horror imagery. It sounds sincere, not forced in the least bit. It took me a few listens before I really got into this album, now I can't even figure out my favorites because I love the majority of the album. The CD included the video for "This Night I Call Bad Luck", nice bonus. I wish they would have pulled off something better for an album cover with it being remastered and all. This cover reminds me of the pre-Phil Pantera covers. The Deep Dark EP single looks way better. A lyric sheet would be have been cool.
