Land
of the Dead (unrated) (2005)
It's probably been about 20 years since Romero's last zombie
movie, I don't really know if this movie worth the wait, but it is a
good enough movie.
This is one of those post-apocalyptic movies, zombies have taken over
the world, there's one city left, and some struggles happen and people
lose their intestines. It seemed to be rushed more than Romero's other
movies, you don't get so involved with the personal lives of the people
in the movie. This shortens the movie and makes it easier for modern
horror fans to swallow. The social commentary is also taken down a
couple notches, sure it has a little bit about people being corrupt, but
i don't think it says too much about our modern times, or maybe it does.
Fuck Michael Moore while we're at it.
I heard a bunch of people complaining about the use of "smart"
zombies in this movie, but they were going in that direction in Day of
the Dead, so those people can shut their non-clint faces. Yes zombies
can get smarter, yes they can conquer their fear of water, yes than can
use guns. I've known this since D.o.t.D. and The Video Dead, what's your
fucking excuse?
The acting is pretty solid in L.o.t.D. I can abbreviate things,
because i'm cool like that. John Leguizamo always amazes me, i
like to think of him as a drag-queen or the annoying prick in that "Most
Dangerous Game" rip off, but the guy always seems to pull off these
really good performances. It's like Brad Pitt, I just want to hate him
but he always pulls off a solid performance. Asia Argento was
prettty much born to make zombie movies, and Dennis Hopper is Dennis
Hopper. Holy crap, that makes two Super Mario Bros. The Movie alumni!
That'll earn them an extra half skull!
This movie is plenty bloody in parts, Unfortunately some of
these are done with CGI and it just looks like ass. Of course that's why
CGI is there, to knock you back into reality and say "oh yeah, this is a
movie". There were too many shots of zombies pulling out people's
intestines, I mean that's usually only allowed one time per movie! Sure,
it's in every zombie movie and I like it, but only once damnit. It got
to the point where I'd say "oh no, someone is getting taken down, looks
like theyr'e going to lose their intestines!" The movie isn't as good as
Day of the Dead, Dawn of the Dead (original), or Night of the
Living Dead, though it's better than the new Dawn of the Dead. I've only
seen the Unrated Director's Cut version of L.o.t.D., so I have no clue
whether or not the theatrical version sucks balls. I could
see myself watching this movie a couple more times, it had a modern feel
but not too modern. If it weren't for Shaun of the Dead I'd have to say
this is the best zombie movie to come out in recent times, damn those
brits.
