Deep DarkMister Monster - Deep Dark EP(2005)
Hey I'm reviewing another Horror Rock band, surprising, huh?  I've listened to this single a bunch of times, I'd have to admit it's kind of a disappointment but it's not a total loss.  The title track "Deep Dark" is easily one of my favorite songs and has been since I bought it. It's almost a bleeding heart love song, it's still got a dark theme to it. The chorus is almost obnoxious the first time you hear it,  I couldn't stand it at first, then I wanted to hear it again and again. There's a breakdown that sounds like something out of any old pop-punk act. This sounds bad but I flat out love this song. Maybe it's a grower, but it didn't take too long to grow on me. It's worth the cost of the CD.
"Torn Prince" is their take on those old 50's ballads where someone dies. Kind of sad, kind of pretty, kind of boring.  It just seems like it was stretched out too long, it's the only song over 5 minutes long on this single..  Maybe I just have to be in the mood for this kind of thing, but I usually listen to horror music when i want to feel better. no dice.
"Glow" is an okay song. It doesn't really go anywhere, the chorus doesn't stick with you so much but i like how the bass sounds in it. You probably won't skip past this track, but I can't imagine ever listening to it more than once in a row.
"Science Fiction Double Feature" is the last track on the album, a live song,  it's a cover from the Rocky Horror Picture Show, I would have preferred a studio version of it, but hey, whatever. I like this song a lot, it's got a chorus i couldn't get out of my head for a while. It seems like the lyrics are just references to events in sci-fi movies, but who cares? If a song is done well you can be singing about just about anything.
The CD came in a plastic sleeve, the cover was signed by J-sin Trioxin (singer/guitarist of this band, guitarist for Blitzkid and Michale Graves' touring band) , there's a card with lyrics for "Deep Dark" and the disc had the Deep Dark video on it. Nice bonuses.
The highlight of the CD is Deep Dark, it was worth the purchase for me, but if you're low on cash you'd be better off just buying   Mister Monster - "Over Your Dead Body".
