Cabin
Fever 2002
Here we go: A bunch of college students go to a cabin in the
woods to get drunk. They piss off a bunch of locals. They come down with
some weird disease, they turn on each other. A bunch of shit happens, it
ends. Cabin Fever is a movie that i put off watching
for years. I finally gave in after seeing a copy of it at Target with a
nifty hologram cover for only $5.50, i figured i couldn't go wrong, and
well, I didn't. I got a decent enough horror movie with some fun
gross-out imagery. It's got a typical group of college students, a
typical love story, a typical scary cabin in the woods, and a typical
bunch of militant rednecks.
There's some decent gore and gross out stuff as everyone gets sick.
There's a bunch of blood and violence. It seems that some of the people
were good actors, and played their roles straight, others were so over
the top you couldn't believe any of it was real. Eli Roth (the director)
played a stoner and was so over the top i thought i was watching Ben
Stiller. I hate Ben Stiller. The sheriff or deputy or whatever wasn't
believable in the least bit. I don't mind a movie that's a little campy
but you have to know that going into it, you can't keep bouncing back
and forth from reality.. There were just too many horror movie cliches,
it's as if the movie is meant to be watched with the cast and crew just
so they can nudge you and wink every so often. I have to say
i was impressed with Rider Strong who played Shawn on Boy Meets World,
he was one of the few believable characters.
It seems to me that ever since Tarantino got big we've had
nothing but movie fans making movies and not film makers. Even when a
movie is great the influences just stare you in the face and break you
out of the reality of the movie and make you think about other movies.
Cabin Fever
isn't bad, but it's painfully obvious what the filmmakers influences
are. We get it already, you like Sam Raimi, okay, yeah Evil Dead
was great, MOVE ON. Too much comic relief can be a bad thing, Cabin
Fever suffered from this. It could have been a great horror movie.
It's still good and worth snagging for cheap, but only with the hologram
cover!

3.5 out of 5 skulls
Here's a cool screen shot: Enjoy!
