Beavis
+ Butthead The Mike Judge Collection Vol 1(2005)
Since DVDs became prominent we've all been waiting for a
proper Beavis and Butthead DVD release. The Timelife one's were
just the old tapes thrown onto DVD, this thing has been hyped for
a couple months, and I was all excited. I was thinking it would be the
first season or whatever. No dice. You see, Mike Judge basically
said that he's embarrassed by a third of the episodes, and this is the
first installment of the episodes that don't suck. Yeah, this is hardly
a best of collection, Other series let fans decide the best of
ones. Well no such love from Mike "Fagman" Judge. So you get a few uncut
episodes, some you'll notice, others you won't. I guess the term
"Directors Cut" means you can say "Assmunch" instead of "Buttmunch".
You get 40 episodes with this collection, it sounds like more than
it really is. The picture and sound quality are nice, Yeah the
episodes themselves are funny, but a best of collection could have had
so many great ones. Maybe they'll show up in the next collections,
whatever.
You only get 10 videos in this collection, the videos had some of the
funniest content! Instead of having them in episodes or even between
episodes they decided to put them on the special features disc. This
makes the first two discs more grueling and monotonous. There's a
biography/documentary thing that's pretty interesting, talking about the
making of the show and early reactions and all that stuff, though it's
only 20 minutes long or so seeing as it's just the first part. Beavis
and Butthead Do Thanksgiving is also included on the third disc... the
videos were cut from there as well. Why they didn't put the
original Frog Baseball short or anything like that in the special
features is beyond me. No commentaries either! Wow, they sure do
know how to stick it to ya.
I'd only recommend picking up this collection if you desperately need to
have some B+B in DVD format. Honestly, you'd be better off buying 30
tacos and downloading the seasons with a bit torrent, The packaging is
nice, though the artwork is recycled. They could have done so much
better just by releasing the stuff in it's proper order.
